Welcome Purnendu Gupta, MD, our new Chief of Staff

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago® is pleased to announce the appointment of Purnendu Gupta, MD, to chief of staff. A longtime Chicagoan, Dr. Gupta attended Northwestern University Medical School, receiving his Doctor of Medicine in1990. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Gupta completed a fellowship in complex scoliosis and spinal disorders at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis. Caring for patients with scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis and complex spinal reconstruction is Dr. Gupta’s specialty.

Dr. Gupta has been practicing at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago since 2007. “My work at Shriners Hospital has become the most satisfying aspect of my career,” he says. “As chief of staff, I would love to see the Chicago Shriners Hospital grow and become a preeminent pediatric hospital in Chicago for orthopaedic surgery, plastic surgery and spinal rehabilitation.”

Dr. Gupta leads an expert staff of orthopaedic surgeons, craniofacial surgeons and rehabilitation experts offering advanced, multidisciplinary care to children from all over the Midwest. The Chicago Shriners Hospital welcomes Dr. Gupta and knows that his invaluable experience will contribute greatly to the mission of caring for kids in a family-centered environment, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.
