A solid night’s rest can be particularly elusive for women whose hormones are fluctuating — whether due to postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, or as a result of medical therapies, such as breast cancer treatment.
When Chicago native Jackie Hutson was experiencing night sweats after the birth of her first child, she says her doctor suggested placing a towel over her sheets to help absorb the sweat. Drawing on her background in retail merchandising and product development, Hutson came up with a different solution.
Piper and Mint’s proprietary pajamas are mint-infused and made from sustainably sourced beech tree pulp. The fabric’s moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties won’t stop night sweats entirely, but they do help reduce moisture and odors, making for a cooler night’s sleep. A line of pillowcases and sheets made from the same fabric will be available soon.
Other companies, such as Cool Jams, Soma, and A Domani, also offer cooling pajamas for women. But Hutson’s pajamas do more than provide relief: A portion of all sales goes to Baby Quest, a nonprofit that provides fertility grants to make the path to parenthood more affordable.
