Association of Health Care Journalists
Editor-in-Chief Katie Scarlett Brandt and reporter Clavel Rangel were selected to present at the organization’s annual conference in May, about the power of journalistic collaboration.
Carter Center Mental Health Parity Newsroom Collaborative
The Carter Center selected Chicago Health to join its collaborative of 45 newsrooms across the country, focusing on mental health care access and inequities. This year, Chicago Health’s focus for the parity is on healthcare workers’ access to mental health care.
Gerontological Society of America’s Journalists-in-Aging Fellowship
The Gerontological Society of America invited editor-in-chief Katie Scarlett Brandt as a returning fellow for the Journalists-in-Aging fellowship. As a result of the program, she produced a story in collaboration with Ellen Eldridge of Georgia Public Broadcasting on grandparents raising grandchildren as the result of the opioid crisis.
Kiplinger Fellowship
Editor-in-Chief Katie Scarlett Brandt was selected as a Kiplinger fellow this past spring. This year’s program, hosted at Ohio University, focused on saving local news.
National Press Foundation Covering Workforce Mental Health Fellowship
Reporters KJ Bannan and Ali Hickerson, with support letters from Chicago Health, were selected as part of the National Press Foundation’s fellowship covering workforce mental health.
Northwestern University’s Media Innovation and Leadership Academy
Northwestern University’s Local News Initiative selected Editor-in-Chief Katie Scarlett Brandt to join this year’s Media Innovation and Leadership Academy (MILA). The intensive program focuses on business strategy frameworks and product development for local newsrooms.
