Fritz-Jose E. Chandler, MD, MSHM, MBA, FASA, serves as facility medical director of TeamHealth’s anesthesiology program at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois. As a dedicated leader, Dr. Chandler consistently champions improved clinical and patient experiences and the growth of surgical volumes and efficiencies through teamwork and alignment.
Dr. Chandler’s leadership philosophy stems from his passion for collaboration and communication. With these core tenets, Dr. Chandler and his team are focused on fostering lasting partnerships with the community, fellow clinicians, and hospital leadership to ensure patients receive high-quality care.
Dr. Chandler brings a unique blend of experience and expertise to this role. Before joining TeamHealth, he worked in private, military, and academic settings. In 1990, Dr. Chandler received his medical degree and completed a general surgery residency in Haiti before immigrating to the United States to pursue further medical training. After completing a general surgery internship and anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a commissioned officer to offer his services and give back to his country. Dr. Chandler served four years in active duty, including a seven-month tour in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom.
After his active-duty service, Dr. Chandler pursued advanced education and training in healthcare management to help improve care delivery. He received a Master of Science in healthcare management from the University of Texas in 2013 before earning a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 2020. During this time, he also continued serving his country and advanced his leadership experience as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. Dr. Chandler has participated in various research and literature devoted to advancing the practice of anesthesia and improving patient care.
Dr. Chandler is board-certified in anesthesia and is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL), Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Anesthesia Alumni Association, Military Officers Association of America, and American Society of Anesthesiologists.
