“This state-of-the-art facility was designed with patient recovery in mind,” says Henry A. Finn, MD, medical director. “The Chicago Center for Orthopedics is equipped with the latest advances in treatment and technology to help our patients who are seeking minimally invasive procedures make a quick recovery. We aim to redefine how orthopedic care is managed for people who count on us every day.”

The Chicago Center for Orthopedics is designed entirely around the care and comfort of patients. The new wing is flooded with light, and the walls are painted in soft, cool colors for a soothing welcome. There are 17 patient rooms large enough to accommodate several family members who decide to visit. The bathrooms are constructed with oversized sliding doors for easy access and include handlebars for safety. Each patient room has a 41-inch flat-screen TV with 50 channels of entertainment, high-speed internet, and a sofa chair that converts into a guest bed.

At the nursing stations, the healthcare team can track and monitor patients in real-time as they move from patient room to physical therapy, family space, and back. The operating rooms accommodate the complex machines used for robotic-assisted surgeries. Globally, physicians trust these technologies for improving patient outcomes.

The robotics equipment the unit relies on includes:

  • ROSA® Knee System from Zimmer Biomet used for knee    replacement procedures.
  • Mazor X Stealth™ Edition from Medtronic used for spine surgeries.

The family waiting room has several built-in charging stations for mobile devices. In addition, a convenient food court will be installed over the summer so families can remain near their loved ones.

The Chicago Center for Orthopedics is led by a team of world-renowned and recognized physicians, including Dr. Finn, who has been named to Chicago Magazine’s “Top Doc” list numerous times, with the latest recognition in 2022. Dr. Ari Kaz and Dr. Craig Westin were also included in the 2022 Top Doc list. Other Chicago Center for Orthopedics members include Dr. Thomas McNally, who serves as the medical director for Spine Care, and Dr. Sebastian Ko, who leads Sports Medicine. Weiss Memorial Hospital has invested more than $5 million to expand the footprint for the Chicago Center for Orthopedics, whichhas been experiencing a significant volume of service. Constructionfor the facility began in spring 2021 and was recently completed.

“The new orthopedic unit reinforces our commitment to energize the community’s healthcare services,” says Irene Dumanis, chief executive officer of Weiss Memorial Hospital. “New technology and our beautiful new orthopedics unit are examples of the significant revitalization underway to enhance patient care at Weiss.”
